The Inspiration Behind Barbara’s House

The journey began with a deeply personal experience. As a massage therapist, I had the privilege of caring for a cancer patient during their final days. This encounter ignited a passion within me to provide holistic care to those at the end of life. Transitioning into nursing and case management, I dedicated over two decades to ensuring patients received the dignity and support they deserved.

In January 2024, a vivid dream revealed a home filled with warmth and peace, where individuals could spend their final days surrounded by love rather than medical machinery. This vision became the catalyst for creating a space that bridges the gaps in traditional end-of-life care.

Barbara’s Story: The Heart of Our Mission

Barbara Szydlowski was more than a patient; she was a beacon of strength and kindness. Our paths crossed in 2019, and over the years, we developed a bond rooted in trust and mutual respect. Barbara's wish was clear: to spend her remaining time at home, away from the sterile confines of a hospital.

Through dedicated home care, we honored her wish, ensuring she remained in the comfort of her home for her final two years. Inspired by our shared conversations and her unwavering spirit, Barbara's family graciously offered her home to become the foundation of Chanda’s House's mission.

The region faces a pressing challenge: by 2030, the caregiver-to-patient ratio is projected to decline significantly, leading to increased strain on families and healthcare systems. Long waitlists for nursing homes and the high costs of hospital care underscore the urgent need for alternative solutions.
